Fluttering
They said her wings might be broken
she might never fly again
stuck in the nest
afraid to come out
but I know she can fly
because i saw her flutter her wings
when she thought no one was looking.
One day, after all this time
she walked a little ways out onto a branch
and I saw her hop, hop, pause
then hop a little farther than she had before.
I think she likes it out on the branch
even though it can feel a bit precarious.
I think she wants to fly,
she's just not sure how far or how long or where to,
or if it's too late to try -
Spring's long gone; it's almost winter, after all.
I think she wants to fly.
I think she will discover how.
Crying, again. You are a gift to those of us who need your confidence and your wisdom.
